People buy perfumes to make themselves more pleasing and attractive to the opposite sex. Recently, after the discovery of the positive effects of pheromones, perfume companies started making fragrances with pheromone additives in them. These pheromone perfumes are intended to make the wearer even more successful in attracting the opposite sex and to become more pleasing to his/her partner or romantic interest.
Pheromones are chemicals naturally produced by a living organism that sends a message to other members of the same species. Scientists have found many different types of pheromones in animals and each type has its own specific message to convey. Although virtually odorless, pheromones are part of the scent markings that animals leave to claim or mark their territories. Animals and insects use pheromones to identify members of their family group or colony. Pheromones also help animals attract members of the opposite sex for mating. Pheromones were once thought to be specific to animals only but it was discovered that humans too have pheromones.
The effect of pheromones on humans is more subtle than in animals, which is the main reason why we don’t suddenly follow somebody’s scent trail or stand in the middle of a sidewalk dumbstruck and unable to move like an animal or an insect does when confronted with an irresistible scent. However, pheromones do have an effect on people’s emotional and behavioral state.
Men who have used pheromone perfumes on dates and parties claim that they have made better impressions with their partners and the opposite sex. Pheromones have also increased the frequency of affectionate gestures and sexual intercourse.
There are many scientific studies that suggest that perfumes with pheromone additives can really increase a person’s chances of finding a partner or becoming more sensually attractive to the opposite sex and because of this, perfume companies sell their products as romantic attractants. People’s curiosity is naturally piqued by the promise of these perfumes and the possibility that they can improve their own social and sexual disposition through these. Because of this, more and more people, particularly men, rely on pheromone scents to find a partner.
There are a lot of pheromone perfumes available in the market these days and in fact, you can find these perfumes almost anywhere – in department stores, drug stores and over the Internet. However, buying one is not that simple because there is really no way to tell for sure if a perfume does contain pheromones, unless you do a chemical analysis. To make your search a bit easier though, here are some ways to know for certain if a perfume contains pheromones or not:
- Read ads for the perfume because manufacturers are likely to use pheromones as a selling point.
- Check the product’s label and package. Most will tell you outright that the perfume contains pheromones or that the product name includes the word ‘pheromone’ or some variation of the word.
- Read the product’s ingredients on the package label. The ingredients list may not include ‘pheromones’ however they may display androstenone, androstenol, androstadienone (which are three of the most commonly used pheromones in perfumes) and other words beginning with ‘andro’.
- Smell the perfume and observe your reaction to its scent. This part is highly subjective because it is not easy to say if a subtle physical reaction is actually a response to the scent or to other stimulants like for example the person who is wearing the scent.
There are different types of pheromones – some are attractive to men, and others to men. It is important that you know which pheromones are designed to attract the opposite sex, usually these are the ones that react with your own body chemistry. Wearing the wrong scent or pheromone perfume can be disastrous to you so be careful and learn more about pheromone categories.
